A Chocolate Affaire

Last Friday, we visited Glendale's famous "Chocolate Affaire." It is in downtown Glendale and there is over three dozen chocolate vendors.....so delicious!

We thought we would try chocolate-covered cheesecake - Nolan loved it!

Andrew loved it!

And I loved it!

It was a little messy though!

News in the New Year!

2009 will be bringing us more joy - as we are expecting our second child! I am due July 28, and Nolan is hoping for a baby sister. It is too early to know yet, but the doctor tells us the baby is looking healthy so far. In this ultrasound picture you can see the body, head, and little arms and legs. We are so excited!

Fall Festival

So we seem to be back to a normal (whatever that is) schedule now that we are all moved into our new home (stay tuned for a virtual tour)....so it is time to get back on track blogging.

In late-October, Nolan, Mary & I went to a Fall Festival put on by West Valley and had a great time.

Chick-fil-A's Cow Appreciation Day!

In order to receive a free combo meal we dressed like cows

from head to hoof - it was totally worth it!

It is important for little calves to hold hands when walking in the street.

It was so exciting inside, the boys got all the attention and they had so much fun running around showing everyone their costumes and saying "moo."

Yesterday, we visited the Hall of Flame Museum of Firefighting. It was a great indoor activity and Nolan loved it! We will make attending this museum one of our "must-do" summer day trips.

We thought we may not get to see any fireworks this year because of the high winds. It turns out that the fireworks (at Surprise Stadium) were only delayed and we did get to see them after all. While waiting for the fireworks we took a walk to the park and got to see a great lightning show. I love the evenings during monsoon season!

Puerto Vallarta

In Puerto Vallarta, we took an excursion on a zip line tour.

We drove in this thing, called a "unimog"....it was a little scary at times - we thought we might fly out!

Always time for a pose - even when we are hanging onto dear life!

We could not bring our cameras on our tour (the company was afraid they would fall and break, you know how that insurance stuff goes), but here is a shot of the first zip line. The first few were pretty easy, they got progressively more fast and steep.

Mazatlan

In Mazatlan, we had fun kayaking and hanging out on the beach.

We began kayaking on the beach near the ramada (front of picture).

We paddled all the way to a ship (about 30-50 feet from the ship) and then went around this island. There was no place to get onto the island - it was like one big rock, with cacti and vultures (or birds that looked like vultures).

Here is the big picture, we started behind the little peak on the left, all the way to the ship and around the island....our arms were sore after that!

Cabo San Lucas

The first stop on our cruise was in Cabo San Lucas....you may recognize some of these pictures from the movie "Troy".

This is "Land's End" at the tip of the Baja Peninsula.

Tendering (the water is too shallow to dock at the pier, so we took smaller boats from the ship to the pier) - what an adventure to get on, the waves were super choppy!!

Of course, we made a stop at the famous Cabo Wabo - a great spot owned by Sammy Hagar with awesome music!

We went on an ATV excursion at this port - Andrew loved it, it was a little more strenuous than I thought it would be!

The end of the ATV excursion was on the Pacific coast - so beautiful.

Mexican Riviera

We recently went to the Mexican Riviera on a cruise... what a life, if only we could do this more often!

Our cruise ship - Royal Carribbean's Vision of the Seas. It was very nice!

Sunbathing - perfect weather and so relaxing...

We got to meet some great people on our trip, this was our dinner group (from left: Ron, Leslie, Andrew, assistant waiter, Christine, waiter Vaz, Christine, & Jeff). We really enjoyed spending time with them and hope to see them again in the future.

The last of two formal nights, it was fun to dress up, eat delicious food, and attend a wonderful show.

This petroglyph is used for the logo for the center. This area was along a well-traveled route that was used by Native Americans from several tribes a very long time ago. It is a great place to visit!

We frequently go to the Phoenix Zoo to see the many animal there. Above is Nolan with his Grandma Mimi, Aunt Tracey, and Cousins Hunter, Abby, & Lauren.

The classic crab shell pose - miraculously they are all looking in the right general direction and no one is crying!

Nolan loves petting the goats - he would brush the goat only once before moving on brush the next goat. He is an equal opportunity brusher!

Wildlife World Zoo

During the last month or so, we have been out and about enjoying the Arizona weather before it gets to be almost unbearable. One of the places we visited was the Wildlife World Zoo. Nolan enjoys the little petting zoo (after a few minutes of getting acclimated to the many different animals).

Recap of December

So December went by in a whirlwind! I thought I would write a semi-short recap so that I can get back on track to a decent blogging schedule in 2008.

We started off the month with a long weekend in Denver, CO for a wedding. Andrew's long-time best friend (who we thought might be a bachelor forever) was married to a beautiful girl named Joy. We are looking forward to getting to know her better in the future - we hope Jesse will bring her down here to visit! Andrew was the best man and looked so handsome in his tux!

Anyway, the wedding was beautiful and the weather was white - it was Nolan's first exposure to snow. He thought it was fun to watch it fall - but did not enjoy touching it too much. While in Denver, we visited an exciting aquarium that not only had fish and such but also tigers! We even got to pet sting rays, but Nolan's favorite was the otters. They were very playful and active in the water.

Christmas was a wonderful time - it is so much more fun with a baby! Nolan received nearly a million presents (or so it seemed) and he loved them all. Of course, we had to get a shot of the gingerbread baby again - this time it came in the form of a chef's hat and apron --so cute!

We wrapped up the year at the new Harrison Home (we are so glad they moved to AZ) and had a great time playing the Wii with family and friends (what could be more fun than exhausting yourself and looking quite silly in the process).

Well, that is December in a nutshell.......on to 2008!

The first step to getting their was to turn Nolan's car seat around so that it is forward-facing...he is growing up way too fast.

This year we decided to start a new tradition of carving pumpkins.

Nolan was a little unsure about sticking his hand inside the pumpkin to clean out the goup.

He decided to play on the floor with a cracker jack box instead - so fun!

The finished masterpieces....The Haberkorn Classic, Christine's Lion (in honor of Nolan's costume), and Andrew's Statue of Liberty. Not bad for first trys with detailed carving.

For Halloween Nolan dressed up like a lion and his friend was dressed as a cow.

We took them arounds the neighborhood in Isaac's red wagon.

Look closely, Nolan got his first taste of chocolate (without his parent's consent). It appears that he was able to bit into the candy through the wrapper!

Desert Botanical Garden

Last Monday, Sheri, Isaac, Nolan and myself went to Desert Botanical Garden and we had so much fun.

The trip got off to a good start - Nolan and Isaac holding hands - so cute!

Inside the Monarch Display, the boys loved playing in the dirt and touching the plants. The butterflies got close enough for then to touch (even though they are not supposed too).

Dr. Brown, the doctor who pulled me out of Mommy, is leaving the practice to teach other soon-to-be doctors how to deliver babies. We are sad that she will not be able to deliver my sibling(s), not that mommy will have another baby for some time. But she is perfect to teach others. Here we are posing with the hats we never were able to get pictures with at the hospital when I was born. Daddy's says "Coach", Mommy's says "Pitcher", and Dr. Brown's says "Catcher" - pretty funny!

Journey Group Potluck

I am 9 months old and here are my stats: I weigh 19 lbs 2 oz and am 27 inches long.

I am doing many silly things now that I am nine months old - like getting myself stuck between the chair and couch. I even tried to pull the little table down.

On Thursday, I got to go swimming with my friend Isaac. I really like swimming now. I kick and kick - it is fun.

Isaac liked it too, but he started to feel bad so he did not get to enjoy it as much as usual.

I went to Casa Grande yesterday with Mama, Dada, and Mimi. We went to help my Uncle, Aunt, and Cousins move into their new home. I was really well-behaved so that Mama could help some (no where near as much as Dada and Mimi).

After everything was in the house, my cousin Taylor showed me one of his turtles named Maverick. I thought is was cool so I crawled over to touch it. Taylor kept it just out of reach though because he did not want me to touch it and then put my hand in my mouth (which is something I am known to do) - what a great cousin!

Michael jumped around and made me smile. He can really entertain me!

On Wednesday, Isaac and I were really dirty from sloppy eating and playing - so our moms thought that it would be fun to have us bathe together. I did not like it! I am still used to taking baths in my baby tub. Even though mama puts the baby tub in the big tub, I was scared of being in the big tub - I guess I will have to get used to it sooner or later (I prefer later).

Monsoon Season in AZ

On Monday afternoon, we got our first real taste of the monsoon season 2007. All of the sudden the rain came down in buckets!

This happened while we were feeding Nolan and we got a little distracted.

We got up to look out the window and Nolan apparently did not want to wait for us to come back to finish his dinner.

Here is the view from the backyard. In the end, we got 2.5" of rain in less that 45 minutes. I love this time of year!

On previous occasions, Nolan hated dipping his feet in the pool so we thought we would give it a try and go all in.

Father's Day

On Father's Day we went to Andrew's parents house where we were joined by my father and our friend Matt (whose family is currently in IA). We had Dave's highly acclaimed steaks and watched a flop of a movie called Ghost Rider. A good time was had by all!

Moving Day

A week ago Friday, we all helped my brother move from his apartment to his new house. With all of us helping out it did not take too long to finish.

Sometimes in the evening I get a little cranky - like I am too tired to play but to awake to sleep.

So I have swing time - I prefer it instead of happy hour.

It usually takes the edge off.

Swimming on dry land

Today Nolan decided to try to swim on dry land (he wanted to try something new to celebrate being 6 months old). He loves kicking his legs and moving his arms. I think he remembers watching Isaac do this before he started crawling all over the place. It is so cute.

He is growing up toooooooo fast!

I have a tooth!

Today, I turned 6 months old (as Isaac would say I'm "half"!) and a tooth popped out of my gums over night. It is my bottom left one. My mommy said I was teething (that's why I have been a little fussy lately), now I know what that means - a sharp thing is about to come out of my little baby gums! I am glad to get that out of the way, but my mom thinks the one next to it will be popping out soon too - ouch!

I love to play with my daddy, I think he is the only one in the world as silly as me!

Mark's Graduation
